Android Marshmallow will be the most recent software for BlackBerry Priv

It is official – the BlackBerry Priv will not get software updates in Android Nougat form. The BlackBerry flagship from less than two years ago launched with Android Lollipop out of the box. Alex Thurber, BlackBerry Mobility Solutions General Manager has confirmed that the company has no plans to bring Android Nougat to the BlackBerry Priv.

The phone, left out in the cold, joins the likes of the OnePlus 2 without Android Nougat, which was abandoned by Chinese manufacturer OnePlus for the software development of its newer devices such as the OnePlus 3/3T and the OnePlus 5. Thurber has stated that it won’t be possible to get all the parties involved in the making of the Priv to agree to such transition for the aged device.

Thurber however mentioned that the BlackBerry KEYone will be getting Android Oreo, Google’s latest mobile operating system version which was unveiled just recently, a silver lining for bad news regarding the BlackBerry Priv. The handset will also be getting Android security updates for the foreseeable future.

Any BlackBerry Priv users out there? What do you think of BlackBerry’s snubbing of its near two year old flagship device?
