The Nexus 6 is a little over two years old now, with the device being the oldest Nexus which got the green light to receive Android Nougat, Google’s 2014 flagship has already gotten Nougat software version 7.0, but Nexus 6 users are eager to get Android 7.1.1, which was promised a rollout to their devices. Google has been silently delaying the software update to the Nexus 6, and the company has finally spoken.
According to a response by Google to a query from the folks at Android Police, Google has claimed to have discovered a last minute bug which specifically affects Nexus 6 devices, leading to the delay of the Android 7.1.1 rollout. The issue has sinced been fixed and the software update will get a rollout early January next year. This means that the Nexus 6 sers will be experiencing a leap from version 7.0 to 7.1.1. Android 7.1.1 will include the goodies that come with Android 7.1, such as fingerprint sensor gestures, support for circular app icons, keyboard image insertion and so on.
Google typically supports its devices for 2 to 3 years. We’re not sure how far will Google go with software support for the aging Nexus 6, but do cherish each OTA software update that arrives to your Nexus 6. What do you think?
