Android 7.1.1 to arrive on Nokia 3 late August

With the Nokia 8 in the pipeline and Android 8.0 to be released real soon, many smartphone makers are still struggling to get their eligible devices on the Android Nougat train. HMD Global has recently released three Android smartphones, all of which are running on Nougat software. But only the Nokia 3 runs on an older Android 7.0 instead of version 7.1.1, which got users questioning.

HMD Global’s Chief Product Office Juho Sarvikas has finally spoken and broke news on the Nokia 3’s software development. Sarvikas took to Twitter, announcing that the Nokia 3 will be receiving the Android 7.1.1 update by the end of August. This means that Nokia 3 users will only have to wait a maximum of one month to receive the software update. Sarvikas has also mentioned that the roll out of Android 7.1.1 to the Nokia 3 will happen simultaneously worldwide instead of region by region on a gradual manner.

While this might be good news for Nokia 3 users, they will likely be stuck on Android Nougat for quite some time before receiving Android O when the latest version OS goes official, once again contributing to Android fragmentation and distribution stats. Regardless, the Nokia 3 is definitely one of the most affordable devices of its range today.
