What can RM6 get you these days? Not much, right? Probably a satisfactory dinner for half an hour, or barely. But that’s all you’re getting when taking the nation’s plunging economy to consideration. In the midst of all these, there’s a smartphone in India that costs a measly Rs. 99 (RM5.98), which by the sound of it, isn’t an operational phone.
As a matter of fact, this Indian phone turns out to be an Android smartphone, known as the Namotel Achhedin. We’re not too sure on how usable (or bearable) the phone is, but here’s a list of what it packs. First off, we’re looking at a 480p display measuring at 4 inches, an undisclosed quad core processor with 1GB of RAM, which might just run better than those cheap flagship clones sold out there. Coupled with that is 4GB of internal storage, expandable up to 32GB via micro SD.
Be sure not to expect too much from this phone’s camera department, though you should be thankful that it has a front facing camera. On the back is a 2MP primary camera alongside the 0.3MP front facing shooter which shouldn’t be considered as a selfie camera. Despite not having 4G LTE connectivity, we’re looking at 3G support with a dual-SIM slot. The handset packs a 1,325mAh battery, which should be enough considering its specs. Plus, this phone surprisingly runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, and not Kit Kat or Gingerbread. Sounds like a good deal if you buy this Android smartphone in tens. Do note that you’re not the only one who’s trying to think of the sorcery and magic behind this ridiculously cheap smartphone, but it will be available to our lucky friends in India starting this week.
