AMD has been busy releasing its entry level to mid range RX 400 series cards over the past few months or so. Now, it appears that the company is finally ready to go for the enthusiasts as WCCFTech reports that the RX 490 will be making its debut in December.

The RX 490 is the enthusiast-class card from AMD, with its direct competitor being Nvidia’s GTX 1080. Based on what leaked documents have shown, the RX 490 will have a target resolution of 4K, it will have a bus width greater than 256 bits, and it will have a price point that is close to, or matches the GTX 1080.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the rumour that surrounds the RX 490 is that the card could potentially be a dual-GPU card like the Radeon Pro Duo. The leaked documents reveal that the card itself could be based on either a dual-GPU Polaris 10 design or a Vega 10 design. If the RX 490 will in fact be launched next month, it is highly likely that the card will be based on Polaris. On the other hand, if AMD pushes back the RX 490 launch date to 2017, a Vega design would be plausible.
