AMD Malaysia has officially announced the availability of the 2nd generation of the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX processors which come with 32 cores and 64 threads of processing power. These new chips are built using 12nm Zen+ architecture and will be compatible on existing X399 chipset motherboards with just a bios update.
With the new WX Series of processors starting with the Threadripper 2990WX, it allows for a massive number of cores on a single chip and performance improvements of 53% faster multi-threaded performance when comparing it to the Core i9-7980XE and 47% more rendering performance compared to the Core i9-7980XE. The other alternative is the Threadripper 2950X which comes with 16-cores and 32-threads giving you up to 41% more multi-threaded performance when compared to a Core i9-7900X.
These 2nd generation Threadripper processors come with an improved AMD SenseMI Technology with Precision Boots 2 and Extended Frequency Range 2. The same performance enhancement features found in the 2nd generation Ryzen processors as well. The Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX will retail for RM7,999 and will be available starting 13 August 2018 and the Threadripper 2950X will cost RM3,899 and will be available starting 31 August 2018
