AMD Ryzen processors seem to be a success, offering a lower price and offers matching or slightly better performance than its counterpart. With the Ryzen name being the new processors from the company, it logical to label the processor’s Zen architecture with a number to distinguish between its generations. Currently, we are seeing Zen processors in the market and the Zen+ processors coming out really soon. It looks like AMD is already hard at work to create Zen 5 processors.
This information comes from Mike Clark, senior design engineer and chief architect for Zen, who said in a recent interview that the development of Zen 5 processors is underway. We have seen AMD’s roadmap and we know that the Zen 2 and Zen 3 processors will be coming out between the release of Zen+ and year 2020, with Zen 5 coming out after that. Based on that, it seems like the earliest we will see Zen 5 processors will be in 2021.
They will be skipping the Zen 4 naming as the number 4 associated with bad luck in Asian culture. There is no other information on the Zen 5 architecture as it is still in the early stages of development. It is interesting that AMD is already working on its fifth generation of processors when the Zen+ processors are not even out, but that’s probably because they want to stay ahead of its competition as the race for the best processors is a never-ending fight
