For those of you who are looking to build a desktop, you might want to wait for a bit; last month, AMD announced that they will be releasing the third-generation line of Ryzen desktop processors sometime mid-2019.

According to LowYat.net, the first of the 3rd-gen processors could come with 16-cores, 32-threads. Besides a new line of processors, AMD will also be releasing new Navi-powered Radeon GPUs around the same time the third-gen Ryzens hit the market.

It’s interesting to see if AMD’s new developments can help them leapfrog fierce rivals Nvidia in the market, especially considering the reports of Nvidia’s disappointing sale records for their RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 graphics cards.

Nvidia seem to be all over the place at the moment in terms of offerings, each falling short of expectations.

According to Tom’s Hardware, fourth quarter earnings showed a 45% year-over-year loss in revenue. The report also quotes Nvidia as blaming the lack of software support for the poor sales of its RTX GPUs.

There’s also an over-supply of the more accessible GTX 1060 which affect sales of their RTX counterparts. With AMD’s seemingly more streamlined approach to releases and development – add to that the release of new Ryzen and Radeon hardware just around the corner – could consumers be holding out and make the switch come mid-2019?
