Amazon joins NVIDIA, LG and Ericsson in withdrawal from MWC 2020

With the coronavirus outbreak worsening, Amazon joined the list of companies who will be skipping MWC this year.

As reported by Reuters, Amazon released a statement to confirm that it will not be exhibiting nor participating in the tech trade show this year. Although Amazon initially plans to attend the event to promote Amazon Web Services, the fear of the virus outbreak has caused the company to put its employees’ health and safety above their plans.

Amazon is now the fourth company to announce its withdrawal from the show; NVIDIA, Ericsson, and LG all announced in the past two weeks that they will not be attending. On the other hand, ZTE changed its mind — instead of skipping the event entirely, the Chinese company will take special measures to minimize public health risks.

To further increase safety measures, GSMA also banned visitors from China’s Hubei province and will be implementing temperature screening. “All travelers who have been in China will need to demonstrate proof they have been outside of China 14 days prior to the event (passport stamp, health certificate),” said GSMA.
