Amazon has gotten themselves a slap on the wrist in the UK as the UK authorities have fined Amazon UK GBP65,000 for attempting to ship dangerous goods on passenger planes.
Southwark Crown Court has found that Amazon has breached four UK civil aviation rules for the offense of “causing dangerous goods to be delivered for carriage in an aircraft.” Said dangerous goods in question includes spare lithium-ion batteries for mobile phones or tablets, a can of Dove deodorant, and a hair mousse made by Tresemme. For those who travel via aircraft, they would know that these items are usually banned on flights.
Amazon UK services was convicted under the UK’s Air Navigation (Dangerous Goods) Regulations 2002 and will be ordered to pay GBY60,000 in legal costs to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Following the sentencing, Amazon has promised that they would constantly to further improve and will continue to work with the CAA in this area.
