Trademarks are important when it comes to mobile technology, and Samsung has made a move to trademark a couple of names for their iris scanners in Galaxy devices for the US and its local market in South Korea. The names Galaxy Eyeprint and Galaxy Iris have officially been trademarked by the Korean company.

If you haven’t known, there is already a Galaxy tablet equipped with an iris scanner, and it isn’t just rumored. In fact, it was already launched in India, carrying the name Galaxy Tab Iris, along with entry level specs, catered to the government and corporate employees. Considering the fact that Samsung has pushed out an iris scanner equipped tablet, plus these new trademarks, chances are that we’ll be looking at a Galaxy Iris device pretty soon, even the possibility of it being on the next Galaxy S device won’t be much of a far fetched claim. Who knows? The Galaxy Note 6 might be packing the next level biometric scanner, but that may seem a little too soon.

We’re not sure how snappy can iris scanners perform when compared to the likes of fingerprint sensors of phones nowadays. Where reliability is concerned, it is hard to tell as well. Geniuses from around the world have managed to spoof the fingerprint sensors of flagship devices over the years, diminishing the faith of some consumers. If iris scanning technology turns out to be quicker, and more importantly, better security and reliability, then Samsung is on the right path to a head start over the rest of the competition. What do you think?
