The Snapdragon 768G 5G chipset is here to offer a more robust alternative to the Snapdragon 765G SoC – it comes with an integrated 5G modem and can be boosted to 2.8GHz.
Overclocked cores
The chip comes with the same 1xKyro 475 Prime core, but instead of a clock speed of 2.4GHz, the Snapdragon 768G chip has it overclocked to 2.8GHz, and it has the same 1×2.2GHz Kyro 475 Gold core and 6×1.8GHz Kyro 475 Silver SoC.
It also comes with the same Adreno 620 GPU but it’s clocked at a higher 750MHz now instead of 625MHz on the Snapdragon 765G.
Affordable 5G
For connectivity, it supports all key region and frequency bands for mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G networks. It supports both SA and NSA modes and global 5G roaming. According to GSM Arena, the chip can offer up to 3.7Gbps download speeds and up to 1.5Gbps upload rates.
Smooth displays for cheap
The chip can also support a screen refresh rate of 120Hz meaning we can expect midrange devices to come with super-high refresh rate displays soon. The first smartphone to pack this new chipset is the Redmi K30 Racing Edition which has a 120Hz display. The phone is priced from 1,999 Yuan (RM1,225) so that gives us a picture of an affordable, 5G-enabled smartphone, that has a 120Hz display, with impressive performance (on paper that is).
