YouTube may be on the verge of receive a huge design change soon as a report by Android Police shows that a Material Design-based look for YouTube is currently being made available to a large number of people.

Assuming that YouTube is indeed making this new design change available to the public, it appears that the company will be doing so in phases. As of the time of writing, our desktop version of YouTube has yet to receive any major changes to its overall look. However, once the design update does arrive, you’ll be a greeted with a YouTube page that sports elements of Android’s design. In addition to the new look, the design update will also bring with it a light and dark mode that toggles the background colour of YouTube.

YouTube’s Material Design-based look continues the trend of Google updating its service to look more like its Android operating system. Not too long ago, a Material Design update was rolled out to the web version of Google Contacts. If this trend continues, we may very well see other Google services like Gmail or Calendar get a redesign of their own within the year.
