Apple plans to integrate sleep tracking by acquiring Beddit

Looks like more and more wearable companies are moving towards sleep tracking and Apple is not going to be left behind, recently Apple has acquired Beddit, which is a company that revolves around a sleep monitoring device as well as companion iOS and Watch app. Not much is known, what is going to happen to products from Beddit as both companies refused to comment to the acquisition.

Apple has never done well when it comes to sleep tracking as it relies on third party sleep tracking apps which gets the job done but is usually not integrated into the Apple ecosystem which is more preferable. If Apple’s focus is to integrate what Beddit has to offer into the Watch then it would be able to cover all areas of health instead of needing a secondary wearable to track sleep. A simple integration between Beddit’s app and iOS’ health app would get the job done

These sleep tracking features are not likely to show up in the iOS 11, WatchOS 4 or the third generation Watch, assumptions lead to it being in-house technology by Apple. There are issues to solve before any sort of tracking are implemented into the Watch such as battery life, which will finally give you a reason to leave the Watch on when going to sleep.
