Acer Swift Air 14 Takes On the MacBook Neo in Malaysia From RM2,999

The MacBook Neo has a new Windows rival in Malaysia. Acer has launched the Swift Air 14 from RM2,999, matching the starting price currently listed on Apple’s Malaysian store, and making its case with a larger 14-inch screen, a 120Hz refresh rate and a more versatile port selection.

For anyone shopping for a laptop for assignments, office work and evenings on Netflix, that puts the two in direct competition. Acer’s pitch is particularly relevant if you like the idea of a colourful, portable aluminium laptop but need to keep using Windows software.

A bigger screen without extra weight

The Swift Air 14 weighs 1.19kg, slightly less than the Neo’s 1.23kg, despite offering a larger display. Its aluminium chassis measures 12.99mm thick and comes in Sage Green, Frost Blue, Blossom Pink and Lilac Purple. A 180-degree hinge also lets it lie flat when sharing the screen across a table.

Acer’s 14-inch WUXGA panel combines a 120Hz refresh rate with 100% sRGB coverage. Apple takes a different approach with the Neo’s smaller 13-inch, 2408×1506 display: its higher resolution favours sharper text, while Acer puts more emphasis on screen size and fluid scrolling.

More flexibility for your desk and everyday accessories

Ports give the Swift Air 14 a practical selling point. It has two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports and a USB-A port, so plugging in an existing mouse or flash drive does not automatically mean reaching for an adapter. The Neo has two USB-C ports, but one operates at USB 3 speeds and the other at USB 2 speeds, with no Thunderbolt support.

Acer also includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and a 1080p IR webcam with Windows Hello facial recognition. A physical shutter covers the camera when it is not in use, while PurifiedView and PurifiedVoice provide visual enhancements and AI-assisted noise cancellation for calls. Quad speakers with DTS Ultra round out the entertainment features.

Check the configuration before comparing value

The Swift Air 14 range offers up to an Intel Core 7 processor 350, up to 12GB of onboard memory and a 512GB SSD. The Neo uses Apple’s A18 Pro with 8GB of unified memory. However, Acer has not identified the processor and memory fitted to the RM2,999 entry configuration in its Malaysian launch release. The top Acer specification should therefore not be treated as what every buyer gets at the starting price.

These are different platforms, and specifications alone do not establish a performance winner. For buyers, the more immediate question is whether their work or course requires Windows applications, or whether macOS and integration with their existing Apple devices matter more.

Acer claims up to 19 hours of battery life and a 50% charge in 30 minutes. Apple quotes up to 16 hours of video streaming for the Neo. The manufacturers use different test conditions, so these figures do not establish which laptop will last longer in the same workload.

Available now from RM2,999

The Acer Swift Air 14 is available through authorised Acer resellers and the Acer eStore, with a two-year warranty that includes a first-year International Travelers Warranty. The first 1,000 units sold come with gifts valued at RM670: Acer SuperCare 2 Extended Warranty, an Acer HyperScrolling Mouse and a limited-edition Acer Swift Sip Tumbler.

As a MacBook Neo competitor, the Swift Air 14 makes its strongest argument through everyday practicality: a larger 120Hz screen, lightweight aluminium construction, Thunderbolt 4 and a USB-A port, all while keeping buyers on Windows. The Neo remains relevant for those who prefer macOS and a higher-resolution display. At this price point, Acer has given Malaysian shoppers a reason to compare both before committing—just confirm the exact Swift Air 14 configuration attached to that RM2,999 price.
