Recently, Spotify introduced a new Premium subscription plan called the Premium Duo — clearly made for couples. This allows Premium access to two Spotify accounts for only RM19.80/month, filling the gap between the previous Premium and Premium Family plans.
Spotify Premium Duo
The new Spotify plan offers similar features as the other Premium plans; users get to listen to music ad-free and play songs offline. It also tweaked the Family Mix — a playlist that can be modified and shared between family members — to a playlist for two called Duo Mix.
Similarly, the Premium Duo plan will require the two Spotify users to verify their residential address to make sure that they’re living under the same roof. This is something that Spotify has been doing with Premium Family subscribers to ensure that the users will not take advantage of the system.
Premium Duo – worth it?
Premium Duo currently costs RM19.80/month, meaning each user will have to pay RM9.90/month — though it’ll actually be a single bill to the one who subscribed to the plan. This is a more affordable plan that the family plan that costs RM22.40/month — when divided by two users, the family plan will cost RM11.20/user. Naturally, subscribing to Premium Duo will also be cheaper than two individuals subscribing to two individual accounts at RM14.90/month.
If Apple Music wants to catch up, Apple probably has to follow Spotify’s footsteps and offer a duo subscription plan sooner or later.
