Xiaomi Mi A1 supports quick charging after Oreo update

Xiaomi surprised the smartphone world by launching the Mi A1 earlier this year. The Mi A1 is a rebranded Mi 5X that runs on stock Android instead of MIUI. This comes as somewhat ironic since the company’s MIUI Android skin usually strays as far away from stock as possible. Xiaomi phones typically don’t support Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology despite their hardware being Quick Charge ready, but the Mi A1 has allegedly gotten quick charging support from it’s most recent software update.

The folks at Telecom Talk have tested the latest beta software of the Mi A1 which is based on Android Oreo. They discovered that the handset now supports fast charging as compared to before. The Mi A1 managed to be fully charged in just 92 minutes, which is pretty impressive for a phone that previously doesn’t have quick charge support. One thing to note is that this was tested using OnePlus’ Dash Charge adapter, hence we can’t confirm that the Mi A1 will officially support quick charging.

Regardless, it is a welcome addition to the Mi A1 on top of its stock Android software based on Oreo, which includes new features such as notification channels, picture in picture support, adaptive icons just to mention a few.
