Meizu is still alien to the global market, but it is far from that on home soil. The company previously heavily promoted its devices to potential markets like Malaysia, but has since laid low on an international level, focusing on its local consumers instead. Meizu has now launched the A5, which is the first ever smartphone from its all new A series.

The Meizu A5 is a very affordable entry level device, in which you will find out later. The phone sports a 5-inch screen on the front, in 720p HD resolution, making it compact than most of today’s phones which typically surpass 5-inches. Underneath the hood lies a MediaTek MT6737 chipset, alongside 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

The handset features a rear camera of 8 megapixels, which sounds just about right for an entry level device, plus a 5MP selfie camera on the front, a standard megapixel count for front facing shots. Battery is one of the key selling points of the Meizu A5, packing a 3,060mAh battery, which is definitely more than enough considering the power it needs for the 720p display and all its other internals.

Price? A very low CNY 699 (RM 442.85), making it affordable for anyone out there. If that is all you require in a smartphone, without the extra bells and whistles, the Meizu A5 might just be the phone you’re looking for.
