It has only been a little over a day since Honor launched its latest flagship, the Honor 9. This handset marks a refresh by Huawei’s sub brand Honor over the beautifully designed Honor 8 of last year. China’s popular local online store Jing Dong (JD) has since recorded nearly half a million pre-orders for the Honor 9.

At the time of writing, a total of 431,827 pre-orders have been recorded on JD’s website. JD has made the figure public as it has a counter on the main page of the Honor 9, which is increasing by tens of thousands in the matter of minutes. One thing to note is that consumers can also pre-order the phone through the official Huawei online store, known as Vmall and other Chinese online retailers such as Amazon China. This means that the total number of pre-orders could well surpass the 1 million mark as we speak, which is quite the feat in less than 36 hours.

The Honor 9 is basically a Huawei P10 in glass form, without the Leica branded cameras. The former and the latter feature nearly identical specs from their internals to their hardware. The Honor 9 also carries a significantly lower price tag than the more prestigious Huawei P10.
