Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi may soon launch a new entry-level smartphone in its home market. Chinese telecommunications regulatory agency TENAA has certified an upcoming Redmi smartphone bearing model number M1903C3EC. It is being speculated that the device could be launched as the Redmi 7A.

The images published by TENAA reveal the Redmi 7A will look quite different from the Redmi 7. In fact, the smartphone looks more or less similar to its predecessor, the Redmi 6A. According to TENAA, the Redmi 7A will arrive with a 5.45-inch LCD display featuring 720 x 1440 HD+ resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio.

The upcoming smartphone will have an octa-core chipset running under its hood, clocked at 1.4 GHz. In terms of memory, the TENAA listing suggests the Redmi 7A will be available in three variants: 2GB + 16GB, 3GB + 32GB, and 4GB + 64GB. Like other Redmi smartphones launched so far this year, the Redmi 7A will be running on Xiaomi’s MIUI 10 based on Android Pie out of the box.

When it comes to imaging, the Redmi 7A will be identical to its predecessor with a 13MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP selfie camera. In terms of battery life, however, the Redmi 7A is expected to be a massive upgrade over the Redmi 6A. While the Redmi 6A features a 3000mAh battery, the Redmi 7A is listed to pack a 3900mAh capacity battery. What may disappoint some buyers is the lack of a fingerprint sensor. The smartphone will be available in Black, Blue, Red, Pink, White, Green, Gray, and Purple color options at launch.
