Samsung seemingly took advantage of the fairly silent Android Wear landscape of 2016 by launching the Gear S3. The Tizen powered smartwatch is considerably the most conventional watch looking wearable of the year, and it has performed pretty decent in terms of its sales in Samsung’s home ground South Korea. According to The Korea Herald, the manufacturing giant has managed to sell 25,000 units within ten days of its launch.

The Gear S3 is sold in both Frontier and Classic variants. Tracking back the performance of the older Gear S2, the past wearable sold 2,000 units daily, hence the sales of the Gear S3 can be considered as improvement. This said “improvement” can be due to a couple of other factors as well. First of all, it is without a doubt that consumers have grown to like smartwatches and are starting to include them in their lives. Another reason would be related to Samsung’s tactic of taking advantage over the absence of new Android Wear smartwatches from major OEM’s, with the exception of ASUS with its ZenWatch 3.

Having said that, Google has been slow on the development of Android Wear 2.0, which is slated to finally debut early next year. Meanwhile, Samsung’s current competition might only be from Apple’s Watch Series 2, which is target more to fitness buffs. What do you think of the Gear S3’s sales so far? Are you planning on getting one for yourself?
