We’ve got some bad news for you if you’ve bought your 15-inch MacBook Pro between September 2015 to February 2017 — your battery may explode. The good news is Apple is offering a battery recall program, so you can replace your old MacBook’s battery with a new one.

Apple revealed that there are certain units of the 15-inch MacBook Pro with batteries “that may overheat and pose a safety risk”. However, this only applies to that specific model — MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) — so rest assured that your newer generation 15-inch MacBook Pro or your other MacBooks are not affected.

Apple has advised that affected customers should stop using the affected units and offered to replace their battery for free, but that’s if the product is eligible. You can check the eligibility by entering your serial number in this page and if you’re not sure which model you own, just click of the Apple logo on the top left corner of your screen and select “About This Mac”.

If your MacBook Pro is one of the affected units, you’ll have to pass it to any Apple Authorised Service Provider to have your battery replaced, taking up to two weeks. Your warranty will also be the same, meaning that it will not be extended.
