TIME names iPhone as the most influential gadget of all time

TIME Magazine launched a list of “The 50 Most Influential Gadgets of All Time” on its site, and Apple’s iPhone were crowned champions of the list. The list included gadgets from different era’s, some of which are pretty ancient by today’s standards, but their existence have shaped how gadgets work today.

According to TIME, the iPhone brought in a new era of flat touchscreen smartphones that have replaced slide-out keyboards and static buttons. The phone was notably remarkable for its software, iOS and the App Store. With the iPhone, mobile apps became mainstream, forever changing the way we carry out daily tasks. TIME added further:

“The iPhone is a family of very successful products. But, more than that, it fundamentally changed our relationship to computing and information—a change likely to have repercussions for decades to come.”

Apple has another product high up in the charts by TIME coming in at third – the Macintosh, praising its graphical user interface and more, setting the standard of interaction between human and computer. Other notable products include the Sony Walkman at 4th place and yet another Apple device, the iPod coming in at 9th place. The Motorola Droid that brought Android into competition with iOS takes the 20th spot. Google Glass came in last place with the rest of the chart comprising of gaming consoles, televisions, cameras, printers and even a Yamaha digital piano.
