Better known for their household appliances and TVs, Chinese electronics brand have today made their smartphone debut in the country with the TCL Plex.
With the brand’s impressive track record in the display department, the TCL Plex supposedly shares the same level of screen quality. It features 6.53-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display with punch hole notch. The panel features TCL’s NXTVISION tech that adapts the brightness and contrast via 6-axis colour enhancement optimization. On top of that, the phone also supports HDR10 for a fuller colour gamut.
At the back is a glass panel that shimmers under light – reminiscent of the Vivo V17 Pro. Like the Vivo V17 Pro, the TCL Plex is available in Opal White and Obsidian Black. Also at the back is a three-camera setup – 48MP main + 16MP super wide angle lens + 2MP low-light lens. On top of that is a 24MP selfie shooter that shoots videos of up to 1080p at 120FPS.
Under the hood is a Snapdragon 675 with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The phone also supports expandable storage of up to 256GB. Powering the phone is a 3,820mAh battery which charges via USB C and supports fast charging of up to 18W.
Coming out of left field – the TCL Plex is an interesting device in that you can connect up to four Bluetooth audio devices at one time, and have output from all four. This is achievable only via 4G mobile data and 5GHz WiFi; you’ll only get 2 speakers if you’re connected on a 2.4GHz connection.
Another cool feature is that the back-mounted fingerprint sensor can be customized with different fingerprint profiles, each can be used to open different apps.
The phone ships with Android 9 and TCL UI. The phone is priced at RM1,199 and is available the official Shopee store. Each purchase will score you a pair of free TCL MTRO headphones while stocks last.
