Sony reveals Xperia X smartphones at MWC 2016

For MWC 2016, Sony revealed that they will be launching a new line of Xperia phones, the Xperia X.

Unlike the Xperia Z series, the Xperia X will be focusing on the design and camera instead of raw performance. As such the two of the three Xperia X smartphones that were revealed at Barcelona sits on the mid-range market. That said, Sony’s mobile division has worked closely with its camera division, resulting in a smartphone camera that focuses rapidly and accurately by predicting subject motion to eliminate any blur. Sony has also worked on the battery of the Xperia X series as it now comes with Qnovo’s adaptive charging technology. This tech supposedly tracks battery usage, allowing the smartphone to last for two whole days.

The Xperia XA is the lower end of the two devices, sporting a 64-bit MediaTek MT6755 processor and 2GB of RAM. It features a 5-inch 720 display, a 13MP Exmore RS, 1/3″ rear camera and an 8MP front camera. It will also come with an expandable MicroSD storage.

Moving on, the Xperia X is the middle child in Sony’s new Xperia series. The phone features a 5″ Full HD curved screen and is powered by a Snapdragon 650 and 3GB of RAM. The camera on the Xperia X is also a step up from the XA as it has a 23MP rear camera with Predictive Hybrid Auto Focus and a 13MP front camera.

Lastly, the “flagship” of the Xperia X series is the Xperia X Performance. The specifications of the Xperia X Performance is largely the same as the Xperia X, but instead of a Snapdragon 650, it comes with a Snapdragon 820 instead. The camera on the Xperia X Performance is identical to the one available on the Xperia X.

All three phones will be made available in four colours – White, Graphite Black, Lime Gold and Rose Gold – and is currently scheduled for a Summer 2016 release.
