Samsung and the Galaxy Note5 S Pen drama

If you have been following tech news portals and forums, you would realise there has been this controversy going around about the Note5’s S Pen. Apparently, should you insert the S Pen into your Note5 backwards, you would damage the internal S Pen sensor located on the inside of the slot. Some people have mentioned that Samsung is at fault as they should have either designed the S Pen so that it can’t go be inserted the wrong way, or made it so that the sensor and slot is more robust to avoid it getting damaged so easily.

Anyway, after all the drama that has been circulating with people from both sides of the camp – one blaming Samsung, and the other side blaming user error, Samsung has finally responded to the issue with a statement:

We highly recommend our Galaxy Note5 users follow the instructions in the user guide to ensure they do not experience such an unexpected scenario caused by reinserting the S Pen in the other way around. – Samsung

I am not sure which camp you are on, but I feel that just like many other products out there, you should read the manual before using an item, whether it is an electronic product, or something bigger like a car. Granted, Samsung should expect that there are many users who don’t follow instructions and could have designed it to be idiot-proof, but at the end of the day, it really isn’t their fault.

So, which side are you on? Do you think Samsung should have designed the S Pen better, or do you think people should just read the manual?
