OxygenOS 3.5.5 arrives to OnePlus 2 with VoLTE support and App Lock

We only have a week before 2016 comes to a close, and there seems to be no sign of OnePlus officially rolling out Android Nougat software updates for its eligible devices, with the exception of the Open Beta program for the OnePlus 3. OnePlus has shipped out another software update for the OnePlus 2, and unfortunately, it still remains Marshmallow.

Introducing OxygenOS version 3.5.5, an OTA incremental update to OnePlus’ flagship from last year. The software update brings a whole bunch of improvements and some new features to 2015’s “Flagship Killer” smartphone. They include:

  • Enabled VoLTE functionality for select carriers
  • Added App Lock
  • Added Battery Saving Mode ( Settings > Battery > More )
  • Added Gaming Mode ( Settings > Developer Options )
  • Added Additional Options for the Alert Slider.
  • Redesign of the Volume Adjustment Bar
  • Shelf Optimizations
  • Updated OxygenOS UI
  • Updated Interface and UI of the Clock app
  • Updated Android Security Patch Level to 1/12/16
  • Increased System Stability
  • General Bug Fixes

OnePlus has stated that the Calculator, Clock and Messages app will be replaced by OnePlus stock apps if they haven’t been updated when applying the OTA software update. Users can however re-download those apps from the Google Play Store, but that will mean that they will have two similar apps running side by side. OnePlus has also warned that updating to OxygenOS 3.5.5 will cause many phone settings to be reset to default, such as ringtones, accent colors and so on, so do keep that in mind.

Only a handful of OnePlus 2 users will be receiving the OTA update, and the software will get a broader rollout over the next few days. What do you think?
