Meizu teams up with MediaTek for its own version of Face ID

Apple has started shipping out its ultimate flagship smartphone, the iPhone X. The phone is “revolutionary” to a point where Apple is willing to forgo Touch ID that was equipped with every iPhone since the iPhone 5s. The iPhone X instead uses Face ID, Apple’s sophisticated and more secure security function via facial recognition. Meizu has announced that it is currently working with chipmaker MediaTek for facial recognition technology as well.

Facial recognition isn’t something that is new to the world of technology. Android smartphones have deployed that feature for a few years now, but it wasn’t accurate and secure by any means. Apple has brought up the standard quite significantly when it introduced Face ID with the iPhone X.

Meizu’s head of global marketing, Ard Boudeling has announced on Twitter that the company will be working with MediaTek to create the best facial recognition technology on smartphones. Meizu’s next flagship will likely be the first to feature the technology given its partnership with chipmaker MediaTek and its long standing loyalty to the company’s mobile chips.

Samsung on the other hand has implemented iris scanning technology for the Galaxy Note 8, but still retained its fingerprint sensor as an alternative means for security. Although facial recognition and iris scanning are arguably more secure than fingerprint, which one would you prefer?
