Dimensity 720: MediaTek’s latest 5G chipset for midrange devices

MediaTek has been creating 5G chipsets for different smartphone segments; their latest chipset is the Dimensity 720 made for midrange devices.

Dimensity 720: 7nm octa-core processor

The new chip uses a 7nm process that focuses on power-efficiency to provide “premium experiences for mid-range 5G smartphones”. It comes with eight cores featuring two Arm Cortex-A76 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores.

90Hz refresh rate, 64MP camera

Phones that use this chip will be able to support 1080p display with up to 90Hz refresh rate, in addition to a 64MP camera setup. The chipset also sports MediaTek 5G UltraSave technologies to help smartphones preserve battery life through efficient consumption. There’s also support for different voice assistants and dual-mic noise suppression to reduce external noise during phone calls.

The Dimensity 720 is a lower variant as compared to the Dimensity 820 or 1000, but it is needed to cater to different midrange phones. We should also be expecting MediaTek to offer the Dimensity 600 series in the future.
