Major Pokémon Go update that introduces Generation II Pokémon may be coming this week

Haven’t launched your Pokémon Go app in a while? You might have a reason to do so soon as it appears that Niantic may be rolling out a major update for Pokémon Go during the weekend.

If this reddit thread is to be believed, Niantic will be pushing out an update on this Thursday that would introduce the Generation II (Gold, Silver, Crystal) Pokémon into the game. Data for 100 new Pokémon was found when dataminers digged through the game’s files during the update that brought Ditto into the game, so it is highly likely that the next update will see these Pokémon be capturable in-game.

The next update will also introduce a new partnership event between Pokémon Go and Starbucks in the United States. Much like Pokémon Go’s partnership with McDonalds Japan, Starbucks outlets in the States will be converted into PokéStops or Gyms during the event’s duration. An internal memo has also leaked online, revealing that the coffee chain will also be serving a special Pokémon Go Frappuccino.

While it is unlikely that the local Starbucks chains will be involved in the Pokémon Go tie-up, the introduction of Gen II Pokémons means that some of the highly-demanded systems (trading, breeding etc.) may be coming to the game very soon. At the very least, the introduction of an additional 100 Pokémon will be a good enough reason to boot up the Pokémon Go app once again.
