FBI drops Apple case completely

Apple will no longer need to face the Department of Justice and the FBI in court any longer as the DoJ has officially dropped the case against Apple.

It was reported last week that the FBI will be working with Israeli firm Cellebrite in order to crack the iPhone’s encryption. Today, the FBI has filed its Status Report regarding the Cellebrite’s attempt at cracking the iPhone, which the court has noted that “good cause” has been shown. With the government being able to “successfully access the data stored on the shooter’s iPhone,” Apple will no longer need to assist the FBI in this matter.

With this, the case between Apple and the FBI has concluded, for now. It is entirely possible that this whole case may reopen in the future, but until then, Apple would not need to worry about creating a backdoor. As for the how Cellebrite managed to break through Apple’s iOS encryption, that matter has been deemed classified, and as such, that method would not be revealed anytime soon.
