Acer announces new Nitro 7 and updated Nitro 5 for improved portable mid-range gaming

At Acer’s global press conference yesterday in New York, a host of products were announced including massive pre-built rigs in the Acer Orion 5000 Desktop, powerhouse mobility in the Predator Helios 700 and 300 gaming laptops and editing machines in the ConceptD line-up.

Acer seems to have ticked all the boxes for every category possible, and with the Acer Nitro 7 and the updated Nitro 5 laptops, they’ve also got casual-gaming market sorted too.

Unlike the Acer Helios line-ups, you won’t find any GeForce RTX cards here – although Acer has failed to confirm the GPUs that’ll come with the laptops, the older Nitro 5 came with a GTX 1050 4GB or a Radeon RX 560X 4GB, and it seems like the updated version will sport at least a GTX 1060 with no option of a Radeon alternative.

Meanwhile the Nitro 7’s is likely to be fitted with Nividia’s newest GTX 1650 and 1660Ti GPUs.

Looking at the Acer Nitro 5, it comes in two size variants – a 15.6-inch version and a 17.3-inch version with an 80 percent screen-to-body ratio – which could mean much thinner bezels than its past iteration. As standard nowadays, the monitor is capable of pushing 144Hz to allow for 120 FPS experience.

Under the hood is a 9th-Gen Intel Core which could mean options of an Core i5 or a Core i7 – don’t expect a Core i9 here. It’s also got two M.2 PCIe SSD slots, and it supports up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM.

The Nitro 7 will only come in a 15.6-inch size while specs wise, all should be a slight upgrade to that of the Nitro 5.

Both laptops come with dual fans that’s injected with Acer’s CoolBoost tech along with a dual exhaust port. The laptops utilize Killer Ethernet E2500 for better network connectivity while Nitro Sound optimizes audio quality. Aesthetics wise, both devices sport metal-like designs on the outside along with red accents around keys and trackpads.

The Nitro 5 will be available in Malaysia sometime this month and is priced from $799.99 (around RM3,302); while the Nitro 7 should come later in June and is priced from $999.99 (around RM4,127).
