10-year-old discovers flaw in Instagram; earns USD 10,000 for it

Facebook has a Bug Bounty program that offers cash rewards to people who discover bugs and flaws in the company’s digital infrastructure. Quite recently, they’ve paid USD 10,000 to someone who found a major flaw in Instagram, that person was only 10-years-old.

Finnish news site Iltalehti reported yesterday that a 10-year-old named Jani discovered a way that would allow im to get into Instagram’s servers and delete text posted by Instagram users. Jani would demonstrate this flaw by deleting a comment that Instagram themselves made on the test account. Jani also states that with this flaw, he could even delete Justin Bieber’s comments if he wanted to.

After acknowledging said flaw, Facebook rewarded Jani with USD 10,000 as part of its bug bounty program, which is an impressive feat by someone who isn’t even old enough to make a Facebook account.
