The ZTE Axon 7 stormed the smartphone market with its flagship specs for a very affordable price tag. The Axon 7 has since joined the ranks of the Xiaomi Mi 5 and the OnePlus 3, to some extent even edging out the handsets with its 2K resolution 5.5-inch display and front facing stereo speakers. All of this comes with what some may call a compromise, and that’s in its heavily skinned software – the Mifavor UI. Though the Axon 7 may fall short in this department, it seems like the budget flagship may be getting Android Nougat sooner than most of the OEM’s out there.
ZTE has started rolling out an OTA update for the Axon 7, packing a whole bunch of fixes and improvements. One of the notable ones is the RF (radio frequency) performance, in which the Axon 7 seems to fare slightly under par when compared to the competition. On top of further battery optimization with the update, there is a newly added feature known as “Fast battery drain apps” which will help identify apps that are battery draining culprits. ZTE has also improved its camera software, with general focus enhancements. The whole changelog with full details of the update can be found here.
Along with the announcement of the update, ZTE has also hinted at an Android Nougat update coming soon – “let’s just say I’ve seen some Nougat crumbles around the office lately.” It looks like Axon 7 users won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on the latest version of Android.
