Google may have been testing YouTube Go in various regions for some time now, but it silently rolled the app out on the Play Store. It is still listed as unreleased on the Play Store, but YouTube Go has since hit over 10 million downloads just two weeks after its official debut.
YouTube Go was made by Google for developing countries. Earlier this year, the app launched in India in beta mode. YouTube Go is designed to be offline first, and intends to give a smoother watching experience on slower networks. Videos can be downloaded according to the user’s preference of quality and the app provides you transparency when it comes to the amount of data consumed. This comes in very handy especially if you are on a limited data plan.
The app is also made to work on entry level devices, meaning smartphones that come with lesser RAM and storage space to begin with. “No more worrying about phone hanging” is one of the advertising points on its Play Store page, with another indication that it will work with older devices up to Android Jelly Bean.
YouTube Go is said to be currently available in South East Asian countries like ours. If you’re a YouTube junkie but stingy on data, this app might just be the solution to your problem!
