Qualcomm has just announced the Snapdragon 636 chipset which brings the power of Kryo cores to a lower cost processor for future smartphones. An insider source has stated that an upcoming Redmi smartphone will be powered by the Snapdragon 636.
The Snapdragon 636 processor will support Full HD+ full screen displays, and that happens to be the case of the rumored upcoming Redmi handset by Xiaomi. Leaks of a Redmi device have been circulating the web lately with a full screen display front, along with dual cameras on the back.
These early rumors however point to a MediaTek chipset instead of a Snapdragon one, which might suggest an exclusive Chinese variant to be launched by the end of 2017, along with a global variant some time next year. Besides, the Snapdragon 636 has just been announced by chipmaker Qualcomm so we probably won’t see the processor in action till next year.
Speaking of Redmi, the above alleged hands on image shows the phone with two large rear cameras with the same aluminium build like the current Redmi phones, plus a rear fingerprint sensor. The full screen display on the front will likely be the pulling factor.
