Xiaomi’s excellent sales places it in the world top 5 smartphone brands once again

Xiaomi has been churning out affordable handsets ever since its existence as a smartphone maker. Like most Chinese manufacturers, Xiaomi has always been striving to make smartphones with the most competitive prices out there against the elite like Apple and Samsung. However, the last two years saw the Chinese company plunge in smartphone sales, which has once again been turned around in Q2 2017.

The most recent statistics from the second quarter of 2017 show Xiaomi clinching a spot in the top 5 smartphone brands in terms of sales, just like old times. Samsung still stays in first placing with a total of 79.5 million smartphone shipments, followed by Apple with 41 million smartphones sold. Third placed Huawei is catching up just right behind, inching closer to Apple compared to the same time last year, and OPPO sits at fourth place.

Xiaomi’s return to its respectable position in the top 5 could be due to its impressive yet affordable Mi 6 flagship, alongside various improvements in the entry level and mid range Redmi series of smartphones, which too recently were revealed respectively.

The trendsetter for online flash sales has also proved the concept to work till today, but Xiaomi has been opening up physical stores in select regions to expand its reach to consumers, with many more to come in the future.
