Xiaomi will be focusing on facial recognition rather than under screen fingerprint sensors

Next year, we should be seeing phones that have under screen fingerprint sensors from the likes of Vivo who is working with Synaptics to bring this technology to consumers. That seems to be the target for many phone manufacturers but Xiaomi thinks that 3D facial recognition is the future and will be focusing on that.

We should be seeing the facial recognition feature in Xiaomi’s Mi 7 flagship device which is slated to come early 2018, there are also reports that mentioned the facial recognition on the Mi 7 could be as good as Apple’s iPhone X. Qualcomm, Himax Technologies and Truly Opt-Electronics will begin producing the module for facial scanning by the first quarter of 2018, once this technology comes to the Mi 7, it is expected that it will be available on other future devices from the company.

Xiaomi Mi 7 Concept

This could potentially make Xiaomi fans disappointed as we have seen many flaws with FaceID on the iPhone X and now Xiaomi seems to think that they could produce a better facial recognition. What do you think about the Chinese phone giant’s move to go with facial recognition rather than fingerprint?
