It’s been a quiet year so far for Chinese tech giants Xiaomi – they’ve released their Mi 9 flagship, refreshed the Mi Mix 3 with 5G support, and while their sub-brand Redmi had also released the Note 7 smartphone. Competitors OPPO, Vivo and Huawei are currently ahead with their 2019 offerings and innovations, so Xiaomi is currently playing catch up.
In doing so, Xiaomi has turned heads by showcasing their Super Charge Turbo tech that puts out a whopping 100W of power. According to Xiaomi, the charger can completely charge a 4,000mAh battery in just 17 minutes.
To put into perspective of how much power that is, current fast charging standards put out wattages of around 50W – max. President of Xiaomi Lin Bin shared videos on Weibo showcasing the capabilities of the charger; at a low battery percentage, the charger puts out about 100W of power; about 70W at 50%; and 55W at 80%.
Xiaomi has also said that for “safety and efficiency”, the charging brick will be fairly large. From zero to 100% – I’d happily take the heavier compromise.
