Xiaomi to remove Mi brand from its smartphones

Xiaomi has been using the Mi brand for many of its devices for a decade, but the company has announced that it’ll be ditching the branding.

Xiaomi removed Mi brand, starting with the Mi MIX 4

For example, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 is now known as Xiaomi MIX 4. A Xiaomi representative told XDA Developers that that will be the branding format moving forward. We’ll likely see the upcoming Mi 11T series in a new name format — the Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro.

This is similar to Apple’s unique way of naming its devices – the iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone 11, etcetera. Perhaps the strategy is implemented in hopes that consumers will relate products with the company name itself instead of just the ‘Mi’ brand.

Will other products in the ecosystem be affected?

That being said, other sub-brands like Redmi and POCO will still remain as they are. As for other non-smartphone products, we still can’t confirm if Xiaomi will also ditch the ‘Mi’ brand.
