Xiaomi has already announced a few months back that they had plans on releasing 5G smartphones, and with the recent revelation of the Snapdragon 855 chipset by Qualcomm, Xiaomi’s goal is only becoming closer and nearer to reality.
In the China Mobile Global Partner Conference, Xiaomi showed the Mi MIX 3, except that it’s the 5G version. The 5G Mi MIX 3 comes with the Snapdragon 855 chipset and also the X50 5G modem that supports download speed of up to 2Gbps. Xiaomi demonstrated features of the 5G smartphone, by showing the audience a demonstration of the Web surfing and live video streaming through the 5G network.
In truth, Xiaomi has already been exploring 5G technology since 2016, and despite that the technology has more complications in antenna design and transmission compared to 4G, Xiaomi still leads in the research and development of the antenna array. Then when it was early 2017, Xiaomi has already started to launch designs of its 5G smartphones, and by next year, Xiaomi will be participating in the a field test organised by China Mobile to test out 5G pre-commercial smartphones.
That apart, Xiaomi also promises to launch the Mi MIX 3 that supports 5G network in Europe next year, and by the third quarter of 2019, they will be launching 5G commercial smartphones that will be able to support China Mobile’s 5G network.
Besides that, Xiaomi will not be the only one launching 5G smartphones next year. Samsung and OnePlus are also companies that promised to bring 5G smartphones to their users by next year, and all these smartphones that have 5G network support will probably be costing a little more compared to the 4G smartphones.
