Xiaomi Redmi 9 introduced from RM499 with quad cameras and MediaTek Helio G80 chip

The Xiaomi Redmi 9 has been quietly introduced in the Malaysian market, and will be available to purchase this month.

The Redmi 9 3GB+32GB model is priced at RM499 and will go on sale this June 18; while the 4GB+64GB variant will cost RM599 and will be available this June 25.

The phone packs a 6.53-inch FHD+ display with a Corning Gorilla Glass screen. It’s also got the traditional water-drop notch where the selfie camera is housed.

At the back, you get a similar camera bump as the Poco X2 except with a lower-end set of lenses; on the Redmi 9 is a 13MP main lens, an 8MP ultrawide shooter, a 5MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. For selfies, you get an 8MP front camera too.

Under the hood is a MediaTek Helio G80 chipset with eMMC 5.1-based storage. The phone also packs a large 5,020mAh battery with support of up to 18W of fast charging.

The phone ships with Android 10 with MIUI 12 layered on top. The Redmi 9 also has a back-mounted fingerprint sensor, and supports AI face unlock too. There are three flavours to choose from – Carbon Grey, Sunset Purple, and Ocean Green. You can visit their official Shoppe page here to purchase the phone – on top of that, there’s a limited time flash sale for the 3GB+32GB model which will bump the price of the phone down to RM449.
