Xiaomi Mi Band 5 revealed to support magnetic charging before launch

Just two days before the launch of the Mi Band 5, Xiaomi has revealed that the fitness tracker will be supporting magnetic charging.

Magnetic Charging

Mind you, magnetic charging is only one of the seven major upgrades of the Mi Band 5. The previous Mi Bands all required users to remove the tracker from its strap before charging. With the new magnetic charging, the Mi Band 5 can be charged quickly without detaching from its strap.

Bigger Display, NFC Support, Menstrual Cycle Tracking

Another feature of the Mi Band 5 is its bigger display, but that was already revealed in our previous report. We have also heard of its upcoming menstrual cycle tracking, new workout modes and NFC support. However, the global variant of the Mi Band 5 is suggested to feature Google Pay, allowing countries outside China to enjoy its payment feature.

Alexa, Upgraded Sensors, Remote Control

Other features include Alexa support, upgraded sensors and a remote-control function that lets the Mi Band 5 work as a camera shutter button. This will prove useful when it comes to taking group selfies that require you to place your phone at a distance.

Xiaomi also confirmed that the Mi Band 5 will come in a few colorful straps — yellow, red, blue and black. Though its official price isn’t out yet, speculations suggested it will be around RMB175 (RM105.57).
