The Xiaomi Mi 9 is launched with a Snapdragon 855 processor and while many are looking forward to that, it is undeniable that there are others who would’ve preferred a less high-end model that is more affordable. Hence, Xiaomi also decided to launch a lite version of the Mi 9, the Mi 9 SE.
The Mi 9 SE comes with a 5.97-inch AMOLED display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Instead of the Mi 9’s 3D seamless all-curved design, the Mi 9 SE has 2.5D curved glass with similar holographic gradient design on its back. Aside from also sporting an in-display fingerprint sensor, the Mi 9 SE with a dewdrop notch is only 70.5mm wide and 7.45mm thin, with the weight of 155g.
Under the hood, the Mi 9 SE sports a Snapdragon 712 processor which Xiaomi President Lei Jun said is more suited for those who doesn’t require a high-end processor like the Snapdragon 855 processor that is also pricier. The Mi 9 SE also comes with 6GB RAM and either 64GB or 128GB storage.
In terms of camera, the Mi 9 SE will still sport a triple rear camera setup like the Mi 9, but it will come with 48MP main camera, 12MP secondary sensor and 13MP ultra-wide sensor. On the front, the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE will hold a 20MP front camera that supports AI Beauty.
The Mi 9 SE comes with a slightly smaller battery size at 3,070mAh and it also doesn’t support wireless charging unlike the Mi 9. The phone also supports 18W fast charging.
The Mi 9 SE is available in blue, purple and grey and the first two colours comes with a holographic illusion. It is actually much cheaper than the Mi 9 at the price of ¥1,999 but for those who are interested in getting the 128GB variant, the phone will cost ¥2,299. The company is also selling the Mi 9 SE case for ¥49.
