Xiaomi has rolled out Android Oreo update to the Mi Box

Xiaomi has finally pushed an update to all Mi Box owners, giving them the Android Oreo experience they have long been waiting for. The update has also arrived on Mi Boxes in Malaysia as users are reporting that their device is asking for an update.

The update comes with a size of 615.8MB and brings around Google Assistant, overhauled channel-based home screen and Play Next channel for access to new TV series. The update was pushed without an announcement probably due to the fact that the Nvidia Shield TV also received an Android Oreo update at the start of June, but the rollout was stopped due to bugs that plagued the update. Nvidia has taken to Twitter to say that there is no official announcement regarding the revised rollout. The Mi Box has been a favourite Android TV box here in Malaysia and overseas, with some unethical vendors already jailbreaking and installing a TV series and movie streamer which gives users access to videos that are not licenced in Malaysia.

If you own your Mi Box or have not been using it for a long time, its time to dust it off and check the software update page to download the Android Oreo update. Make sure to backup all your data before you do so.
