Xiaomi gives us a sneak peek of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus

While many smartphone manufacturers are probably done with 2017 and prepping up for 2018, Xiaomi intends to end the year on a high, with two new smartphones debuting this Thursday on December 7. The Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are both slated to launch exclusively in China later this week, and Xiaomi has released official images of the devices prior to the launch.

Both the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus sport similar designs as seen above. Xiaomi is definitely embracing the 18:9 display aspect ratio wave, with both handsets featuring full screen displays. Earlier rumors indicate that the Redmi 5 will have a 5.7-inch HD+ screen while the Redmi 5 Plus will rock a larger 6.0-inch higher resolution Full HD+ display. The bezels are still considerably large for full screen displays, but both phones will definitely have better screen to body ratios compared to their predecessors.

Underneath the hood, the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are tipped to be powered by Snapdragon 450 and Snapdragon 625 chipsets respectively. The former will pack a 3,200mAh battery while the latter will carry a 25 percent larger battery at 4,000mAh.

It is no surprise that Xiaomi publishes images of its yet to be released devices, something which is quite typical of Chinese smartphone makers. The full details will be disclosed when the company launches both phones on December 7.
