Xiaomi enters the laptop market with the Mi Notebook Air

Smartphones aren’t the only thing that Xiaomi has announced at their Beijing event. The Chinese company is officially entering the laptop market, and it is doing so via the Mi Notebook Air.

As the name shows, the Mi Notebook Air has taken some inspiration from Apple’s own MacBook Air. In terms of design, the Mi Notebook Air is just a smidge smaller than the 13.3″ MacBook Air, with the former being 13% thinner and 11% smaller than the former. Much like the Redmi Pro, the Mi Notebook Air will also sport a full metal body that can be via customized via stickers.

For the display, the Mi Notebook Air sports a 13.3″ Full HD display that is fully laminated to reduce glare. Said screen will also comes with edge-to-edge glass protection and will have an ultra-thin bezel that measures only 5.59mm. The Mi Notebook Air will also come with an ultra-thin, full-sized keyboard that comes with individual backlit keys with a keystroke depth of just 1.3mm.

Next up: specifications. The Mi Notebook Air will run on a 6th generation Intel Core i5 processor that is clocked at 2.7GHz. It will have 8GB of DDR4 RAM, a 256GB PCIe SSD, and two additional SSD slot should you wish to expand your storage. The Mi Notebook Air will also come with its own dedicated graphics card, the Nvidia GeForce 940MX. The battery on the Mi Notebook Air is stated to last for around 9.5 hours, and you can charge the device up via USB Type-C to half the battery’s capacity in just half an hour. The Mi Notebook Air will run on Windows 10 Home, and will be able to communicate with other Xiaomi products and services such as the Mi Band 2 and the Mi Cloud Sync.

The 13.3″ Mi Notebook Air isn’t the only option of course as the laptop will also come with a 12.5″ configuration. With a thickness of just 12.9mm, the 12.5″ Mi Notebook Air will be powered by an Intel Core M3 processor, 4GB of RAM, a 128GB SATA SSD with expandable SSD slot, a 1080p FHD screen, and a battery that lasts 11.5 hours on a single charge. 

Both Mi Notebook Air laptops will be available in China on the 2nd of August. The 13.3″ model will have an asking price of CNY4,999 (RM3,057), while the 12.5″ model will be available for CNY3,499 (RM2,140).
