For those of you who find MIUI 6 very clunky and fiddly, great news: Xiaomi has finally released MIUI 7 today, a comprehensive upgrade to its Android-based OS. Xiaomi has mentioned that with this upgrade, you will experience better performance, battery-saving optimisations and an even wider range of customisable options to personalise your Xiaomi smartphones.

Another new feature not found in its previous MIUI iterations is the face recognition feature in Gallery, where it identifies people in your photos and groups them all together. The global launch of MIUI 7 will take place in New Delhi, India  on 19 August 2015 – in about six days time.

On top of the unveiling of MIUI 7, Xiaomi has also announced its latest addition to the Redmi family – the Redmi Note 2. Priced from RMB799, Redmi Note 2 is equipped with a 2.0GHz MediaTek Helio X10 processor, 16GB storage and 2MB RAM. Want something a little better? Well, Xiaomi has also announced the Redmi Note 2 Prime that comes with a 2.2GHz chip, 32GB on-board storage and 2GB RAM.

Both phones are equipped with 5.5-inch full HD display, 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. Both Redmi Note 2 variants will be available for sale online in China from 16 August 2015. Funnily though, the Redmi Note 2s will be installed with MIUI 6, and upgradable to MIUI 7 on a later date.

On top of these two big announcements, Xiaomi has also unveiled its Mi Wi-Fi nano today, a premium PCB smart router that is small enough to fit on your palm. It will be retailing for RMB79.
