Xiaomi announces 2nd manufacturing plant in India

Till now, Xiaomi seems to prefer expanding in its own region than to the west. The company’s absence at MWC 2017 last month has got its fans question is expansion plans to the western market after Xiaomi has been claiming to do so for a while now. Despite its seemingly reluctance to venture stateside, Xiaomi still managed to enjoy some success all across Asia and the company plans to build on that as it announced its 2nd factory in India.

Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi’s Vice President and Xiaomi India’s Managing Director, has announced on Twitter that Xiaomi now has a 2nd manufacturing plant in the country. The new plant is said to reaffirm Xiaomi India’s commitment to the #MakeinIndia initiative. Regardless, a 2nd Indian factory seems necessary considering the fact that India is one of the Chinese manufacturer’s main markets as the nation’s interest in budget smartphones is often overwhelming.

Despite not being the top smartphone brand in India, Xiaomi has managed to rake in over $1 billion in revenue in the country, contributed mostly by the popularity of its Redmi lineup. Just recently, Xiaomi managed to sell over 1 million units of the new Redmi Note 4 in a matter of 45 days. Looks like Xiaomi is going for greater heights in its region while a western expansion still remains in question.
