Woman caught smuggling 102 iPhones strapped to her body

While phone smuggling has become quite common, having 102 phones strapped to your body while going through airport security sounds pretty absurd, not to mention illegal. That is exactly what this Chinese national did in an attempt to smuggle iPhones from Hong Kong to China.

Customs officials in the Shenzen entry point discovered bulges around her torso before singling her out for a body searched. It was then when they found a total of 102 iPhones and 15 luxury watches strapped onto the smuggler’s body. They all weigh over 44 pounds, which is pretty heavy to be worn around the body. The officials were also reportedly suspicious of the woman’s clothing which seemed a little too much for China’s summer weather.

iPhones are sold relatively cheaper in Hong Kong compared to China, hence the reason why smugglers can afford to make a living until they’re caught. The 102 iPhones still did not break the 146 smuggled iPhones record set by another man back in 2015.

Just for calculations’ sake, 102 iPhones cost at least RM 32,000, if you factor in the base model of the iPhone 7, and that is excluding the price of the luxury watches.
